Henning Stummel Architects is a design led practice, which specializes in serene contemporary architecture and advocates civic and comunal urban spaces. The practice was opened in 2000. Henning brings to his practice a wide breadth of knowledge through his education at the TH Darmstadt, ETH in Zurich, as well as collaborations with Richard Horden Associates (1989-90), Sir Norman Foster & Partners (1992-93) and David Chipperfield Architects from 1993 to 2000, where he rose to become a senior associate.
Stummel has lectured and taught at various universities, including at the Chinese University, Hong Kong the University of Cambridge, where he directed a design unit.

The focus of Henning Stummel Architects is a contemplated method of combining new structures within historically sensitive sites as well as assuring that new-build construction is ecologically considerate and a positive contribution to its locality. The practice has concluded that many answers to these concerns are often found in vernacular building types.
Henning Stummel Architects strives to create architecture that is well defined, comprehensible and has a positively enduring aesthetic. Simultaneously, the practice ensures that such projects fulfill the demands of contemporary life.
The practice has been published internationally and has already received numerous awards such as a Housing Design Award (2004), Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Building of the Year: London Region 2005. It reached the finalist stage for the RIBA Stephen Lawrence Award in 2005. More recently the practice has been awarded the 2008 Daily Telegraph/Homebuilding and Renovating Award and the 2009 Grand Designs Award for ‘Best Conversion’.
How we work: Ours is a small practice, so you can always be assured the personal attention of founder/director Henning Stummel. The successful outcome of any project is dependent on clear communication. We listen, and we are happy to develop the brief together with the client.
Usually we develop our schemes with the help of models, which we build in house. Models help us to develop and visualize the scheme and they empower the client. When it comes to communication no other medium is as effective.
In taking a project to realization we work with the RIBA plan of work. We follow the stringent standards set out for RIBA chartered practices scheme, so we have a quality assurance system and hold suitable PI insurance. We have consistently kept our overheads to a bare minimum and so we are proud to offer a first class service at competitive fees.
